The latest figures from the Court of Protection show that there were
6,210 applications for deprivation of liberty orders during the year 2023. These would have been made by local authorities, ICBs and Welsh Health Boards for people living in the community (not in care home or hospitals and therefore not covered by the DoLS procedure) or potentially for young people aged 16 or 17 (again, not covered by DoLS).
Compared to the previous year, the Court almost doubled the number of DoL orders made in one year to 5,276 during 2023.
