About the Event:

Please note this course has not been designed for health/social care staff. Places are limited and free places are only being offered to families or informal carers that are non health/social care professionals. If you are (also) a health or social care professional- please speak to your employer to request Mental Capacity Act training or view our range of courses designed for professionals.

We are hosting a new free course for families and informal carers covering the Mental Capacity Act. The course will be run by our trainer Piers McNeil

The course will cover:

• The purpose of the Mental Capacity Act 2005

• Who does the Act apply to?

• The 5 legal principles underpinning the Act

• What does the Act mean by lack of capacity?

• The process for assessing capacity and how families can help

• The process for making best interests decisions

• What should happen if there’s a dispute about capacity or best interests?

• An overview of Advance Decisions, Lasting Powers of Attorney & Deputyship 

  
  

The group size will be limited so that those attending can ask questions about their own circumstances in an informal setting and in confidence (Edge sessions are not recorded).
