  • Learning Disability and Community Legal Frameworks

The Transforming Care initiative in learning disability services means community services need to consider the most appropriate legal frameworks for individuals. This course aims to enable health and social services staff understand the different legal options for people with a learning disability. In particular, it considers the options available under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and inherent jurisdiction looking at the criteria, powers and limitations of each.

  • Mental Capacity Act & Mental Health Act Interface

Designed for mental health staff of all disciplines, this course examines the complex relationship between these two Acts.

Please Note: requires prior basic knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 & Mental Health Act 1983.

  • Mental Health Tribunal (MHT) - Court Skills and Report Writing Skills

A course open to any staff who will have to write reports for the Tribunal (First Tier - Mental Health) and attend hearings to give evidence.  There is no requirement to have previous experience in this area. The course will enhance participants' knowledge of MHTs, their skills for giving evidence at MHTs and their effectiveness in a MHT setting. It is taught by an AMHP and lawyer both with experience of working for the First Tier Tribunal (Mental Health).
