  • Introduction to the Care Act

This interactive training day is aimed at adult social care practitioners, managers and decision-makers and will cover the key provisions of the new Care Act, highlighting the changes to the legal framework and how these will affect practice. Delegates should have some existing knowledge of adult social care assessments and service provision.

  • Learning Disability and Community Legal Frameworks

The Transforming Care initiative in learning disability services means community services need to consider the most appropriate legal frameworks for individuals. This course aims to enable health and social services staff understand the different legal options for people with a learning disability. In particular, it considers the options available under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and inherent jurisdiction looking at the criteria, powers and limitations of each.

  • Social Care Assessments

A review of the law and guidance relating to social care assessments, links with Section 117 Mental Health Act, applying eligibility criteria, justifying assessments, making robust support plans and recording outcomes that can stand up to legal challenge.
